She stood by the window, motionless, her gaze firm. He faced her, clearly caught off guard. And between them… a dog sat quietly on the floor, unaware it had become the center of a life-changing decision.
For several long seconds, no one spoke.
Then, in a calm but steady voice, the woman broke the silence:
“I can’t go on like this anymore… you have to choose.”
The man froze. He wasn’t expecting this.
And then she said it clearly:
“Me… or the dog.”
The room went still.
He lowered his eyes to the dog. Those trusting eyes looked back at him, not understanding what was happening. Then he looked at his wife—there was pain in her eyes… but also a clear demand.
Time seemed to stop.
Finally, the man took a deep breath. Everyone expected an immediate answer. But instead, he did something unexpected.
He slowly walked over to the dog, knelt down, and gently stroked its head.

“I don’t want to lose either of you,” he said calmly. “But I can’t send him away. He’s part of my life.”

“Then we need to find a way to live together… without choosing,” she said quietly.
He nodded.
